Since May 2011, the European Parliament has approved a new privacy law which governs, among other things, the obligation websites have to ask users for permission to use cookies. The law known as the EU Cookie Law integrates and completes some previous directives (2002) on user rights, with particular reference to web communications and services, personal data, and privacy protection. Here the full text of the law for consultation.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are computer files or partial data that can be saved on your computer (or other devices enabled to browse the internet such as smartphones or tablets) when you visit a Site.

A cookie usually contains the name of the website of origin, its lifespan (i.e., how long it will remain on your device), and a value (usually a single number) generated randomly.

2. What do we use cookies for?

We use cookies to offer you a simpler browsing experience, speeding up your future experiences and activities on our Site. We can also use cookies to understand users’ interests and needs and to compile anonymous aggregate statistics. By understanding more deeply how people use our Site, we can improve its structure and content.

We are unable to identify you through this information.

3. What kind of cookies do we use?

On our site, we use two types of cookies – session cookies and persistent cookies.

Session cookies are temporary cookies that remain on your device until you leave the site.

A persistent cookie remains on your device for much longer or until you delete it manually (how long the cookie remains on your device depends on the cookie lifespan and on your browser settings).

Some of the pages you visit may also collect information through pixel tags (also known as clear gifs): we may share such data with third parties who directly assist our promotional activities and the website development. For example, we may share information on how our visitors use the website with our advertising agency. This data allows us to optimize the display of advertising banners. In any case, even if linked to your data, the information is not personally identifiable.

The site employs Google Analytics to collect data on the users. Google Analytics generates statistical and other information through cookies stored on users’ computers. We apply the information generated to make reports on the use of websites. Google will store and use this information.

4. How can I delete or disable cookies?

You can decide whether or not to allow the setting of cookies on your computer. However, the activation of all types of cookies is necessary for the optimal functioning of this website. The cookie settings can be controlled and changed from the browser Preferences. For information on how to change your cookie settings, select below the browser you are using.

By disabling cookies, you may disable some features of the site. Even with all cookies disabled, your browser will continue to store a small amount of information. This information is necessary for the basic functionality of the site.
